Free Assessment Camps for Persons with disabilities launched in Goa

 

Panaji, Goa 22nd May’2025: The Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, and the Directorate of Planning, Statistics, and Evaluation, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Government of India undertaking, organized a free assessment camp in Sanguem Taluka on May 20, 2025 as part of the series of camps to be held for Persons with Disabilities. The initiative is part of a comprehensive state-wide campaign aimed at empowering persons with disabilities and senior citizens in need of assistive devices, covering all 12 talukas across Goa.

The camp was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri Subhash Phaldesai, Shri. Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities; Mrs. Varsha Naik, Director, Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities; Shri Taha Haaziq, Secretary, Office of the State Commissioner for PwDs and other dignitaries and local representatives.

 

Speaking at the inaugural camp at Sanguem Taluka, Hon’ble Minister for Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri Subhash Phaldesai said, “This initiative reflects the government’s unwavering commitment towards empowering Persons with disabilities. Through these camps, we aim to identify their specific needs and provide assistive aids that enhance their mobility, dignity and participation in everyday life.”

Shri.Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa quoted “The Free Assessment Camps mark a significant step towards creating an inclusive and accessible Goa. Our goal is to ensure that every person with a disability has the opportunity to live with dignity and independence. These camps not only help us identify the needs of individuals but also reaffirm our commitment to bridging the gap between disability and empowerment through timely support and assistive technology.”

 

Building on the success of the Sanguem camp, a second assessment camp was held in Quepem Taluka on May 21, 2025. The upcoming schedule for the camps is as follows:
* May 22 – Government School, Canacona
* May 23 – Chetna Education Society, Curchorem
* May 24 – Our Lady of Piety High School, Dharbandora
* May 25 – Ponda Sports Complex, Ponda
* May 26 – College of Pharmacy, Panaji
* May 27 – Sanjay Centre School, Vasco
* May 28 – Ravindra Bhavan, Margao
* May 30 – Marriage Hall, Valpoi Bus Stand, Valpoi
* May 31 – Sohirobanath Ambiye College, Pernem
* June 1 – Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa
* June 2 – Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim

The camps are being held with the technical expertise of ALIMCO, which plays a crucial role in assessing beneficiaries and facilitating the future distribution of mobility aids and assistive devices. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities and elderly citizens across Goa. The initiative underscores the Government of Goa’s inclusive commitment to ensuring that every individual in need receives support—leaving no one behind.
