Residents of Chicalim hit out at PWD for not acting on leaking pipelines for last several months. PWD says awaiting permissions from Railways for commissioning of new pipelines*
Residents of in and around Chicalim have hit out at pWd for not acting on their complains about a large leaking pipeline. Residents informed that thousands of litres of water is wasted daily and this had been going on for over 6 months. Residents have now complained that several migrants have been using the leaking water for shower and bath and even washing clothes.
Residents fear that the dirty water used by migrants after having bath and washing clothes could seep in the pipeline again and contaminate The entire flow of water going through the pipeline. Residents have feared that the contaminates water could cause disease to everyone in the area as the pipeline caters to entire Mormugao taluka.
However PWD AE has said that the works could take around 4 days time and water would have to be stopped for taking the works. PWD has said that since it is summer and water cannot be stopped, they have kept the works pending. PWD has said that the new big pipeline is already present and has to be connected which will stop all leakages and also provide water with more pressure but works on new pipelines could not be taken because south Western railway has not yet given the permission as they have plans of expansion and double tracking.
