This year we observed various major incidents like diversion of Mahadayi River, fire to eco-sensitive forest areas to facilitate zone change of land etc. In the last few months, fires to remote forest areas of Goa have been reported in various talukas in Goa like Sattari, Pernem, Bardez, Dharbandora & now in Canacona. Till date Forest Dept. couldn’t find out the exact reason for such firs or failed to arrest any culprit. Canacona taluka is a naturally reached area having cover of forest on one side & one of the important areas of eco-sensitive Western Ghats. In eco-sensitive, naturally abundant forests of Canacona, such incidents of forest fire are regularly occurring in various Dham, at various places where protected/rare trees are blatantly cut, forests are devastated, burned to ashes for commercial benefit. All these things adversely affected wild animals, birds/creatures, trees in forest & loss of these wild animals, birds, green forest cover will ecologically imbalance our State. Every year the Central Govt. is spending crores of rupees for the conservation & protection of forest but after noticing such fire incidents in remote areas of forest, it is clear that all these are sheer wastage of money. After spending crores of rupees, our Govt./Forest Dept. are failing to protect eco-sensitive forests. We are facing the heat of Global warming & even after suffering from the danger of Global Warming effect, we are not serious about preserving our mother nature, our environment, our forest cover. Therefore Central Govt. must hold the State Govt., Forest Dept. responsible for the fire in remote forest areas & must take stringent action on the responsible Minister/Department/Govt. officials.
After witnessing fire in Forest, Janardhan Bhandari & his JANA-SENA team Visited at CHAPOLI Dam Janardhan Bhandari personally called The Collector-South Goa, The Dy. Collector-Canacona, The Mamlatdar-Canacona & the Disaster Management Authority & requested them to arrange Air Fire Bridge to control fire in Canacona & these govt. officials also responded positively to his request & assured to do the needful.
