Maharashtra based man arrested for duping more than 100 Goan youth

Panaji: Goa police have arrested a Maharashtra-based man in Mumbai for duping more than 100 gullible youth from the coastal for around Rs 13 lakh by offering them jobs abroad.

Police spokesman said that Old Goa police team led by PSI Laureen Sequeira arrested Aniket Gaikwad (25) from Ahmadnagar, Maharashtra in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Old Goa police had registered a complaint on June 03 that Gaikwad along with another accused Savio Da Silva portrayed themselves as recruitment agents, influenced and induced to pay money on pretext of providing them jobs deceived the complainant and others and cheated them for an amount of Rs. 13,00,000/- approximately.

The complaint mentioned that the accused Gaikwad collected money from various Goan youngsters promising them job in foreign countries like US, USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand and also on passenger and Cargo Ships with foreign Companies.

The Goan youngsters got attracted to the lucrative and attractive offers given by the accused through Savio Da Silva.

Both the accused persons invited funds and taken passport and other documents. They also called them to Mumbai for training, document verification etc. but failed to provide and job as the offers were fake.

The complaint mentioned that Gaikwad had disconnected contact with all his investors and they were not provided any job. Initially the accused had to return the money and later stopped receiving the call and absconded from the given address.

The Old Goa Police was on track of the said accused from last five days and the information was gathered. Two teams search the accused person at Margao and Ponda areas.

The team led by PSI Sequeira visited Panvel, Belapur, Dadar, Kurla, Mulund areas in search of accused.

Finally the accused was traced in Mumbai with the joint efforts with Deunar Police Station, Mumbai Police. The accused was later brought to Goa on transit remand and he was placed under arrest in this case. It is suspected that the accused had cheated more than 100 innocent people involving very huge amount, the spokesman said.
