ALDONA: When the government takes up a project that involves digging up of roads, it should ensure that the restoration of the stretch is also included in the tender, said Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the reinstatement of the road from Nachinola junction to Jagbai temple. Also present were Nachinola sarpanch Freddy Fernandes, officials and villagers. The work has been tendered for Rs 35 lakhs, the MLA said.
“I have one demand which I will put in writing to the government. I have spoken about this issue in the assembly, especially about this particular road. It is a shame that the road was in a pitiable state. Whenever roads are dug up, they should be promptly resurfaced. But the road is dug up and then after 3-4 years, it is restored. This cannot be accepted. We have to put a mechanism in place to ensure these works are factored in while tendering the project for digging of the road,” he said.
“We have taken up restoration of the road from the high mast at Nachinola junction up to Jagbai temple. This is an important road that connects Nachinola to Uccasaim and also goes up to Gavar. This road repair work was long overdue. It was dug up to lay a water pipeline. But the road was not restored. The width of the road was reduced from 4.5 metres to 3 metres. I thank the government for hearing our request as well as the PWD engineers concerned,” he said.
He also said that people should not park their vehicles partly on the shoulders of the road and road, as this reduces the width of the road, thus inconveniencing other commuters. “It’s alright to park on the shoulders but not on the right of way,” he said.
Also, work on laying a new water pipeline at Panarim commenced on Thursday. Present at the inauguration were ward members Harish Mayekar, Abhitnya Satardekar and other villagers.
“Laying of pipelines of 110mm and 90mm diameter near the Santa Cruz Chapel covering a stretch of around 600 mts will provide the missing link to certain houses in this locality. Work has been tendered at a cost of Rs 7 lakhs and will be completed in the next 10 days. Access to water is one of the essential rights of any human being. I thank Harish Mayekar for pushing forward with the project and following up constantly,” Ferreira said.
