The Aam Aadmi Party has slammed the BJP Govt and the CM Pramod Sawant for increasing the water tariffs now, after announcing free water to Goans before elections last year.
State President Adv. Amit Paleka attacked the Govt by calling the free water promise just another hoax like every other Jumla of BJP.
“BJP made a “Jhooth ka vaada, paani ka daam jyaada”, just like it’s fake “Har ghar jal” certification when there are no taps or dry taps. Also, it appears that Pramod Sawant has started recovering the money spent on purchasing Congress MLAs. This water hike is nothing but extortion of Goan taxpayers to fund the purchase of even the remaining 3 Congress MLAs”, Palekar charged.
Velim MLA Engr Cruz Silva recalled that AAP leader & Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha had reacted to CM Pramod Sawant’s promise last year to give 16,000 litres of water free, by stating that “Nakkal mein bhi akkal chahiye”.
“Chaddha had called Sawant’s announcement a cheap imitation of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s free water scheme, and had predicted that Sawant was not capable enough to make the scheme a success like Kejriwal. With this anti-people hike soon after elections, Sawant has proved Chaddha right”, Silva mocked.
Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas demanded an immediate rollback of the hike, along with the scrapping of the notification of an annual hike of 5%.
“Announcing free water before elections, and then increasing the water tariff after elections, shows that the BJP Govt intended to cheat Goans for their votes. BJP should stop its “40% raj” in all contracts, and use the taxpayers money to give minimum basic amenities to taxpayers like free water and electricity”, Viegas demanded.
