BJP Goa State Media Convener and Spokesperson Siddesh Shripad Naik has questioned the Congress party’s stance on accountability following the visit of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to Goa, stating that the party must address allegations concerning its own leadership before targeting political opponents.
Naik said it was contradictory for the Congress leadership to speak on issues of corruption, governance, and accountability while allegations regarding disproportionate assets against Mr. Kharge are reportedly under scrutiny.
He stated that Congress has repeatedly accused the BJP of corruption while projecting itself as morally superior, but added that the allegations concerning Mr. Kharge raise serious questions that deserve clarification from both the Congress President and the party.
“The people of Goa and the country expect transparency and accountability from every public representative, irrespective of political affiliation or position,” Naik said.
Reiterating the BJP’s position, Naik said the party believes that the law must take its own course and that no individual should be above scrutiny. He added that investigating agencies should be allowed to function independently without political interference.
Naik further said that Mr. Kharge’s criticism of the BJP during his Goa visit stands in contrast to the questions now being raised regarding his own conduct. “Instead of levelling political accusations against opponents, the Congress leadership should first address the allegations concerning its own leadership,” he remarked.
Concluding his statement, Naik asserted that the people of Goa can distinguish between a government focused on development, transparency, and good governance and a party that, according to him, applies different standards to itself and its political rivals.
