Amit Patkar Slams BJP Government for Anti-People Budget

Panaji: The BJP government’s Union Budget 2025-26 is yet another blow to the common man, failing to provide relief from rising prices, unemployment, and economic distress. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar has strongly criticized the budget, calling it an “anti-people and visionless document” that prioritizes corporate interests over the welfare of the middle class, farmers, and the working population.

“The BJP government has once again ignored the struggles of ordinary citizens. There is no relief from inflation, no concrete job creation plan, and no increase in spending on healthcare and education. This budget is designed to benefit a handful of crony capitalists while leaving the common people to suffer,” said Amit Patkar.

Key Concerns Highlighted by Amit Patkar:
1) No Relief from Inflation:
•The budget fails to control skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, burdening the middle class and poor.

•High fuel and food costs remain unchecked, impacting household budgets.

2) Tax Cuts are Superficial:
•The minor tax relief announced will not significantly boost the disposable income of common citizens.
•High indirect taxes like GST and fuel taxes remain unchanged, keeping the cost of living high.
3) No Jobs for the Youth:
•The budget has no concrete plan to generate employment for millions of job-seeking youth.
•The BJP government’s failure to promote skill development and employment-generating industries is worsening the job crisis.
4) Healthcare and Education Neglected:
•No significant increase in budget allocation for public healthcare and education, forcing people to rely on expensive private institutions.
•The poor and middle class continue to suffer due to lack of affordable medical and educational facilities.
5) Reduced Welfare Spending:
•The government is focused on fiscal consolidation at the cost of social welfare schemes, impacting rural development.

•Farmers, laborers, and marginalized communities are left without adequate financial support.

6) No Relief for Farmers:
•The budget does not address rising input costs, low MSP, or farmer debt, pushing the agricultural community into deeper distress.
•BJP’s anti-farmer stance continues, with no major announcements to support agricultural growth.
Congress Stands with the People
“This budget proves once again that the BJP government is anti-poor and anti-middle class. It is designed to serve corporate interests while the common man struggles to survive. Congress has always fought for the people and will continue to do so. We demand immediate measures to control inflation, create jobs, and provide relief to the struggling working class,” Amit Patkar asserted.
