Save the Iconic Aguada Lighthouse from Neglect!

The Aguada Lighthouse, a stunning symbol of Goa’s maritime history, is at risk of being lost due to incompetence and neglect. This historic structure, which has stood since 1864, deserves better care and attention. It should be preserved as a part of a citizen’s care fund, possibly under the supervision of the Captain of Ports.

Currently, the lighthouse is closed to the public, supported only by steel reinforcements. Despite the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) receiving ample funds from the Indian Oil Foundation, they have decided to allocate resources towards building a new cafe and museum within the compound instead of restoring this iconic lighthouse. This decision raises concerns about the preservation of our heritage. The ASI has stated that they cannot use these funds for repairs because the lighthouse falls under the jurisdiction of the Captain of Ports. As a result, while plans for new developments are underway, the lighthouse continues to deteriorate.

We must advocate for the restoration of this historical landmark before it crumbles away. The Aguada Lighthouse is not just a beautiful sight; it is a vital part of Goa’s identity and history. Let’s come together to ensure that it shines brightly for generations to come!
