In a heartfelt tribute on the eve of Goa Liberation Day, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant honored the first-generation heirs of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Goa Liberation Struggle. The ceremony included the presentation of Certificates of Honour and monetary benefits as a mark of respect for their supreme sacrifices.
During the event, CM Sawant reflected on his previous visit in 2022 to honor the Veerpatni of Martyr Shri Karnail Singh Benipal in Haryana, emphasizing the enduring contributions of those who fought for Goa’s freedom. He paid homage to the families of notable martyrs including Shri Bala Raya Mapari, Basavraj Hudgi, Sheshnath Wadekar, and others who played pivotal roles in the liberation movement.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Goa endured nearly 450 years under Portuguese colonial rule, and it was the resilient spirit of Goans and their allies that propelled the liberation efforts. He noted that 74 brave individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in this struggle, and this recognition by the government underscores a commitment to honor their legacy. Dr. Sawant urged everyone to draw inspiration from these heroes as Goa continues to progress toward a united and prosperous future.
