The Aam Aadmi Party Vice President Valmiki Naik on Wednesday criticised the Congress party for failing to take any significant action against the 8 defectors. Naik asserted that because of its pre-election deal with the BJP, Congress, the second-largest party after the BJP, isn’t taking legal action against the defectors.
Naik claimed that Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Margao MLA Digamber Kamat are main people behind this deal. Furthermore, he mentioned that P. Chidambaram, the Goa election in charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Goa desk in-charge and former Congress President Girish Chodankar were all involved in the deal.
Naik said, “It is the responsibility of the Congress party to take some serious legal action against the defectors, otherwise people will lose faith in democracy”.
AAP urged that Congress make the affidavit public, as AAP has already done. Naik said, “Nobody has ever seen the affidavit that the Congress candidates signed prior to the election. On the other hand, AAP had delivered the affidavit door to door and shared it on social media, making it public. AAP has also made sure that constituents can take legal action against a defected leader if the elected candidate switches parties”.
In addition, Naik said, “It is critical to examine whether Congress leaders had represented the party or the people in their affidavits. Taking serious measures against the defectors would be the responsibility of Congress leaders if they had represented the party”.
AAP Margao leader Licoln Vaz stated that Congress is again fooling voters and workers by staging a protest against defectors. Congress workers and voters should demand that the affidavits of Congress party members be made public.
