Panaji: Goa Police on Thursday arrested a 32-year-old man in Bangaluru for defrauding various banks in the state by forging invoices of the car showrooms.
Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan told reporters in Panaji that the accused identified as Deelip Rajegowda, who was formerly working in two Insurance companies from where he had fetched the papers to forge the invoices of different car showrooms in Goa and Karnataka.
Valsan said that the accused was arrested in Bangaluru by Karnataka police and then handed over him to Goa police on Wednesday.
The complaint against the accused was filed in July, 2022 by a manager of a bank at Porvorim in Goa that an unknown accused along with other female accomplice submitted application for the vehicle loan with a fake quotation from the car showroom.
The accused got the loan of Rs 8 lakh sanctioned from the Bank and also showed fake insurance copy showing hypothecation to the Bank and accomplice stood as a guarantor to the loan.
Valsan said that the accused had defrauded nine different branches of five banks in Goa and Karnataka in various cases. The accused is originally from Dharwad.
The SP said that the accused has defrauded an amount of Rs 75 lakh to different banks, of which Rs 16 lakh was in Goa.
The accused was produced before the local court which has granted four days police custody
