Political Pulse Of Goa Series: Revolutionay Goans Party
Revolutionary Goans: In the potpourri that is Goa’s political scene the Revolutionary Goans stand out as an unknown entity. What began as a nativist movement championing the cause of the Persons of Goan Origin (POGO) Bill that would bring a law giving primacy to ‘original’ Goans in government and public life and soon metamorphosed into a political party, that founder Manoj Parab says is due to the mainstream political parties ignoring their demand that the POGO Bill be passed in the assembly. The party gained huge traction among unemployed youth and those employed abroad who began attending meetings in large numbers and donating time and money for the cause.
Covid did play spoilsport as the party lost some of the momentum owing to the party’s inability to hold public meetings.
While the party does have the novelty factor going for it, it is unlikely to win any seats as the party doesn’t have the aura of winnablity around it which works against candidates and people would rather vote for a winnable candidate than ‘wasting’ their vote on a non winnable one at the time of the polls.
The question only remains is what votes share the party can get and whom will they damage and in which constituencies.
