On December 1, 2024, the state of Goa observed World AIDS Day with a special function organized by the Goa State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with AHF – India Cares. The event was held in Panaji and featured the lighting of a traditional lamp by Dr. Vandana Dhume, the Director of the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), to mark the occasion.
The theme for this year’s celebration was “Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right,” emphasizing the importance of health rights for all individuals. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri Umakant Sawant, Joint Director of IEC at GSACS; Dr. Lalitha Umraskar, Project Director; Shri Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil, Community Ambassador for AHF; and Dr. V. Sam Prasad, among others.
This significant gathering aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote health rights within the community. The presence of esteemed guests highlighted the collaborative efforts towards combating stigma and supporting those affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Goa State AIDS Control Society continues to play a vital role in addressing health issues related to HIV/AIDS, fostering an environment of support and empowerment for individuals across the state.
