A delegation led by Shri. Chandrakant Gawas – Chairman, GCCI Logistics Committee, Mr. Dhirendra Thakker – Co-Chairman, Logistics Committee, Mr. Kiran Balliker – Director, and Mr. Sanket Kaskar – Coordinator, Logistics Committee along with Mr. Mario Futardo – Furtado & Co. and other Stakeholders of the Logistics Sector met Mr. S. V. T. Dhanamjaya Rao – Airport Director, Airport Authority of India, Goa at his office on 19.09.2022 to bring to his kind attention the shutting down of the operations of the Central Warehousing Corporation at Vasco. The CWC is shutting down as it is a less economically viable option to operate due to no revenue generation. The stakeholders were utilizing the services of CWC Vasco for storing their imported cargo, now that the operations were to be shut
down all the stakeholders utilizing these services would be facing a lot of hardships as there is no alternate service available for storage of cargo. The delegation requested the director to kindly provide a solution. The Chairman requested Mr. Rao that a parallel alternative warehousing space should be provided to the stakeholders at the Goa Airport by the Airport Authority which will help the stakeholders to continue their business operations smoothly. The Airport Director appreciated the efforts and ideas and the initiative taken by the Chamber along with the stakeholders. He further informed that they have already made an application for permission to the Customs Department to allocate an area of 34 sq mts for import cargo and 100 sq mts for bonded warehouse, he
also informed his officers to follow up with Customs Department on a priority basis. Mr. Rao informed them that more space will be provided in the future because currently the available space was already given to Air India Cargo and they will have to follow time consuming protocols to deallocate the space of Air India Cargo so that the same can be allocated to CWC. The Airport Director assured the delegation that he will look into this matter with priority, He assured that a part of the warehouse space will be cleared and given to CWC and the same will be communicated to Customs Department in an official letter within the coming two days. Mr. Rao assured his full support and cooperation regarding this issue industry delegation. Further Director Mr. Rao requested the stakeholder and the industry to export, and import as the international Air movement is likely to start. The delegation also met Mr. R Srinivasa Rao – Asst. Custom Commissioner at his Mormugao Harbour office and discussed the closing
of CWC and other issues.The Chairman Mr. Gawas and Director Mr. Ballikar discussed in detail regarding Invest Goa 2022 and invited Mr. S. V. T. Dhanamjaya Rao to participate in Invest Goa summit 22 which is going to be held at Committee Hall, Taliegao on the 6 th and 7 th October 2022.
