GOA’S NEXT BIG TAKEOFF: ETGOVERNMENT NATIONAL REPORT SPOTLIGHTS TWIN AIRPORTS AS POTENTIAL PHARMA EXPORT GATEWAY

National report highlights how Mopa and Dabolim airports could strengthen India’s pharmaceutical supply chain, expand global exports and open new economic opportunities for Goa beyond tourism.

PANAJI: Goa’s twin international airports at Mopa and Dabolim have emerged as a key focus in a national report by ETGovernment (The Economic Times), which examines the state’s potential to become an important pharmaceutical logistics hub for India.

Published on 15 October 2026, the article titled “Goa’s Twin Airports: Building a New Logistics Hub for India’s Pharmaceutical Industry” highlights how Goa’s aviation infrastructure could support faster pharmaceutical exports, temperature-controlled cargo movement and improved connectivity to international markets.

The report points out that Goa accounts for approximately 12% of India’s pharmaceutical production, underlining the state’s significant contribution to the country’s medicine manufacturing sector.

It also highlights the cargo infrastructure at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, designed with an initial annual handling capacity of 25,000 metric tonnes, including specialised cold-chain facilities for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.

The article examines how improved connectivity between industrial hubs such as Verna and Tuem and the state’s two airports could reduce dependence on major cargo gateways like Mumbai, strengthen export competitiveness and create opportunities for specialised employment.

The national report also references Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s vision for the complementary operation of Mopa and Dabolim airports, linking Goa’s aviation infrastructure with its broader industrial and economic development.

GOA’S BIGGER STORY: Traditionally recognised as one of India’s leading tourism destinations, Goa is increasingly featuring in national discussions on pharmaceutical manufacturing, aviation logistics and industrial connectivity. The ETGovernment report presents Goa’s twin-airport infrastructure and established pharmaceutical industry as an opportunity to strengthen the state’s role in India’s global medicine supply chain.
