Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai to organise All Goa Fugdi contest on Oct 19

PANAJI: Stating that women must be encouraged to showcase their talents, Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai announced that there will be an All Goa Fugdi Competition on October 19.

He was speaking at the first Fugdi Competition organised by Shree Ram Devasthan Rambhuvan, Cumbarjua on Friday.

Present were Cumbarjua Sarpanch Sachin Gaude, Deputy Sarpanch Sudhir Phadte, Temple President Suraj Tari, Babu Raikar and other dignitaries.

Faldessai said that the idea behind organising such programmes is to give a platform for people to showcase their talents.

“On October 19, which is a Saturday, we will be organising the annual All Goa Fugdi Competition. The first prize carries a cash reward of Rs 1 Lakh, with the second prize Rs 60,000, and third prize Rs 40,000. Every participating group will get Rs 10,000 each. We want to encourage people and give them a platform and hence the prize money is big,” he said.

“I congratulate all the participants. Winning and losing is part of life. One should not take this too seriously. We want women to be promoted and showcase their talent. Fugdi is our tradition. We need to preserve it. Every programme be it Diwali, Shigmo, etc, we want our constituency to be in the forefront and hence we are organising such programmes. We need our constituency to thrive. People from all over the state come here,” he added.

Raikar called for preserving the fugdi tradition.

“Fugdi is a tradition as per Hindu religion mythology. For us to uplift the Hindu religion, we need to promote such traditions to promote unity. Women take part in it, however, more of them should take part more and showcase their talent not only in Goa, but outside the state as well,” he said.
